OUDINOT, CHARLES NICOLAS (1767–1847), duke of Reggio, marshal of France, came of a bourgeois family in Lorraine, and was born at Bar-le-duc on the 25th of April 1767. He had a passion for a military career, and served in the regiment of Medoc from 1784 to 1787, when, having no hope of promotion on account of his non-noble birth, he retired with the rank of sergeant.

Nicolas Charles Oudinot adalah putra dari sembilan bersaudara dari Nicolas Oudinot dan Marie Anne Adam. Ayahnya bekerja sebagai pembuat bir, petani anggur dan menyulingnya menjadi brendi di daerah Bar-le-Duc, Lorraine .Ia memutuskan untuk berkarier di dalam dunia militer, masuk resimen Medoc dari tahun 1784 hingga 1787.
Charles Nicolas Oudinot starb am 13. September 1847 im Alter von 80 Jahren in Paris und wurde als ehemaliger Gouverneur des Hôtel des Invalides im Caveau des Gouverneurs der Cathédrale Saint-Louis-des-Invalides beigesetzt. Seine Vaterstadt errichtete ihm eine Statue. Sein Sohn Nicolas Charles Victor Oudinot (1791–1863) war ebenfalls General.
