Johann Elert Bode is one of the greatest German astronomers famous for his “ Titus-Bode Law ” that became significant in determining the orbit from Uranus. Bode was born in Hamburg. His father, Johann Jakob Bode, worked as a merchant. During his childhood years, he suffered from an eye disease that caused blindness in his right eye.

BODE, JOHANN ELERT (1747–1826), German astronomer, was born at Hamburg on the 19th of January 1747. Devoted to astronomy from his earliest years, he eagerly observed the heavens at a garret window with a telescope made by himself, and at nineteen began his career with the publication of a short work on the solar eclipse of the 5th of August 1766.
Bode died in Berlin on November 23, 1826, aged seventy-nine. JANUARY 19 is the bicentenary of the birth of Johann Elert Bode, who at one time was the foremost astronomer in Germany.
