In the book 'Montserrat Caballe Casta Diva' by Robert Pullen and Stephen Taylor, mention is made of 'Opera' critic Herbert Weinstock being, and I quote, 'unimpressed with the performance of Otello which commenced a run at the Met on 22/2/1967. In addition to Caballe's debut as Desdemona, Zubin Mehta was also making his debut conducting the work.
