André Previn has enjoyed a number of successes as a composer. His first opera, A Streetcar Named Desire, was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque. During the 1999–2000 season, Mr. Previn had new works premiered and recorded by the Vienna Philharmonic (Diversions) and Renée Fleming (The Giraffes Go To Hamburg and Three Songs of Emily Dickinson).

Composer, conductor, and pianist André Previn left his native Germany in 1938 to live in Paris and subsequently to settle in Los Angeles in 1940. His early career orchestrating film scores at MGM led quickly to conducting engagements of symphonic repertoire and on to an international career as music director of orchestras in London, Los Angeles, Oslo, and Pittsburgh.
André Previn is a highly successful German-American musician. A recipient of several lifetime achievement awards, Previn is known for his highly versatile orchestral compositions, as well as his piano recitals. Previn is also known for his film scores and jazz compositions, thus making him one of the most well known figures in the music industry.
