DJ Jazzy Jeff, formerly of Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, from Philly, was one of the best scratchers and turntable artists of his day. He is widely regarded as the inventor of the 'transformer' scratch, but it is reported from very reliable sources that someone else created the transformer, Cash Money named it, and Jazzy Jeff was the first DJ to put it on wax.

It was a sign of not only Vega’s (and Gonzalez’s) willingness to stray far beyond the house template, but also of Vega’s talent in working with large ensembles, something that would serve him well in coming years.

DJ Jazzy Jeff, all'anagrafe Jeffrey Allen Townes (Filadelfia, 22 gennaio 1965), è un disc jockey e beatmaker statunitense, prevalentemente impegnato in produzioni hip hop/R&B. È inoltre conosciuto perché all'inizio della carriera formava con Will Smith il duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince e perché ha recitato con lui, nel ruolo di Jazz, nella serie Willy, il principe di Bel-Air .
