  3. Outbuildings of the Wintour-era house are in use at Taurus Crafts, and old maps show the ‘Pleasure Gardens’ around it. A new house was built from 1875. Its gardens were converted to food production in the Second World War, when the house sheltered first the future Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, then the North Foreland Lodge girls’ school.

In 1909 Lord Northcliffe became the owner and by 1920 the 18-hole championship course and the adjoining short course had been opened; at this time the name was changed to North Foreland Golf Club.
