Er bestaat geen echte daltonschool, alleen scholen die volgens het Dalton plan werken. Hoe het Dalton Plan wordt ingezet kan dus per school verschillen. Wat wel terugkomt op iedere school die volgens het daltononderwijs werkt is dat het dagprogramma bestaat uit verplichte lesstof gekoppeld aan de wettelijke kerndoelen.
