The officers involved in the unit (for the first 4 seasons at the very least) are generally not the typical "beautiful people" that too often populate most TV dramas.

DVD box set of Homicide: Life on the Street instead of the older sets. They have the episodes in order they were produced for the most part as NBC moved them around which caused a bit of confusion. They also have the best quality transfers you can get for a television show produced at the time as most television shows used tape machines to edit filmed shows.
