28 de oct. de 2019 · Johnson opened his tailor shop when he was just 19, and by the age of 22, he was elected the mayor of Greeneville, Tennessee. He served as mayor for four years. He was then elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1835. He later became a Tennessee State Senator before being elected to the Congress in 1843.

He took office after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and was president through the contentious early days of Reconstruction. His vision of Reconstruction was rejected and his presidency was not successful.
Andrew Johnson, född 29 december 1808 i Raleigh i North Carolina, död 31 juli 1875 i Carter's Station i Tennessee, var en amerikansk politiker ( demokrat) som var USA:s president åren 1865–1869. Han blev president efter mordet på den republikanske presidenten Abraham Lincoln, som han hade varit vicepresident till i drygt en månad.
