Herschel also became head of a large household, fathering 12 children with his wife, Margaret Brodie Stewart Herschel (married 1829). With respect to the history of psychology, Herschel’s main interests had to do with human perception of brightness and color, as well as questions about whether mathematical and scientific discoveries are primarily “in nature” or “in the mind.”
