George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester. Millicent Bernard-Sparrow. Alma mater. Trinity College, Cambridge. Lord Robert Montagu PC (24 January 1825 – 6 May 1902) was a British Conservative politician. He served as Vice-President of the Committee on Education between 1867 and 1868.
Lord Montagu's son Henry was committed to the Tower at the same time as his father. It was expected that he would follow his grandmother to the block, but the king did not want to risk unfavorable public opinion and so he was deprived of a tutor and imprisoned in the Tower until his death, possibly from starvation, in 1542 or later.

But that becomes just a prologue, abandoned early on in this story of a bisexual British lord who survived imprisonment for his sexual orientation and went on to save the family estate through a combination of passion, chutzpah and desperate showmanship.
Montacute. The first creation was for Simon de Montagu (d. 1316), who was summoned to parliament on 29 December 1299. The third baron was created Earl of Salisbury in 1337. On the death of the third earl, both titles became forfeit under attainder in 1400. Both titles were restored in 1421 for the heir, Thomas Montagu, 4th Earl of Salisbury.
Lord Montagu was also a champion of Listing. Indeed many of the 450,000 entries on the National Heritage List for England today, date from his chairmanship. And it was during his term in office that the concept that Post-war buildings could be worthy of listing was hatched.
And on Lord Montagu’s passing, his honoured title and the estate of Beaulieu – in his family since 1538, when they picked it up for a song from King Henry VIII – will be passed along intact to his only son, the Hon.
