In 1599, Francis was married to his stepsister, Ursula St. Barbe, daughter of William St. Barbe of Broadlands and Mary Blackeney. The marriage was presumably arranged by Edmund and Lady Mary, described as a "masterful" woman, to cement their families fortunes and, more specifically, to protect the interests of Lady Mary and her daughter.

Ursula St. Barbe (died 1602) (aka Ursula, Lady Worsley and Ursula, Lady Walsingham) was a lady at the court of Queen Elizabeth I of England. The daughter of John St. Barbe from Somerset, and Eleanor Lewknor, she first married Sir Richard Worsley, who was the captain of the Isle of Wight. After his death, she married Sir Francis Walsingham in 1566.
