The original portraits in this room are of Louise, Alphonso, and his parents, Peter Rawson and Sylvia Howard Taft. They were made in 1859 after persuading Grandpa Taft to agree to a sitting. The grandparents were major influences in the daily life of the household although they did not entertain as much as the younger Tafts.
10 de may. de 2024 · William Howard Taft National Historic Site. In 1851, Alphonso Taft purchased a house on Mount Auburn. The neighborhood – upwind and high above downtown Cincinnati – was where upper-class residents lived. Six years later, William Howard Taft was born in the house – Alphonso and Louise Taft’s second child.
Louise Taft. Louisa “Louise” Maria Torrey (11 September 1827-8 December 1907) was the second wife of Alphonso Taft, and the mother of U.S. President William Howard Taft. Background. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the first daughter of Samuel Davenport Torrey (1789-1877) and his second wife, the former Susan Holman Waters (1803-1866).
