He holds a cap in his right hand and his sword in his left. In 1862 Prince Moritz married Princess Augusta of Saxe-Meiningen, daughter of Bernhard II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen. They had five children.

In 1885, Albert was appointed Regent for the Duchy of Brunswick, replacing Ernest Augustus, Crown Prince of Hanover, who had been removed from office by German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
