James Caan se casó en cuatro ocasiones. La primera en 1960 con Dee Jay Mathis, con quien estuvo emparejado hasta 1966 La segunda con Sheila Ryan (1976-1977) La tercera con Ingrid Hajek (1990-1995) La cuarta con Linda Stokes, con quien contrajo matrimonio en el año 1995.
