Christopher Lee var sønn av oberstløytnant Geoffrey Trollope Lee (1879–1941), fra 60th King's Royal Rifle Corps, og hans hustru, grevinne Estelle Marie (født Carandini di Sarzano) (1889–1981). Lee tilhørte på morssiden en gammel adelig italiensk slekt med navnet Carandini. Han var nevø til Ian Fleming som skrev bøkene om James Bond.
