He earned a sterling reputation while accompanying the brilliant saxophonists Charles Lloyd and Jan Garbarek, as well as trumpeter Tomasz Stanko. As a leader, Stenson gained notoriety with his classic piano trio, which went through several changes along the way.
12 de jun. de 2023 · Bobo Stenson first rose to recognition as a sideman and in-house pianist in the late '60s with saxophonist Sonny Rollins, vibraphonist Gary Burton, and saxophonist Charles Lloyd, among many others. But it was in 1971, alongside drummer Jon Christensen, that he established his subtle, humorous shadings and folkish, earthy style with Underwear (ECM).
26 de oct. de 2023 · Reflections in D from Reflections, Bobo Stenson Trio, 1992 I first saw Bobo Stenson live with his trio at Pizza Express in London in the early 90s with Anders Jormin and Jon Christiansen. My abiding memory is firstly a breathtaking solo rendition of an Ellington tune (I remember it as Solitude), and secondly being enraptured by Anders Jormin’s casual melodic virtuosity.
