In the severity of the post-war years she was one of Britain's most successful and best-loved entertainers. Her warm personality and glamour were just what the British public needed, and she was always consistent, rarely attempting to do anything outside her speciality.

Una Winifred Atwell appears to have been born in 1914 on 27th April (as her death certificate allegedly stated she was 69 when she died in 1983) in Tunapuna, Port of Spain, Trinidad where she lived with her parents in Jubilee St. At age 2 ½ she was given her first formal piano lessons by her mother. At age 5 she played Chopin Concerts in public.
