6 de ene. de 2009 · Tiny Chaptico was home to many daring men, beginning with John Coode who led Maryland's 1689 Protestant Rebellion. During the Civil War, Chaptico's blockade runners carried medicine and other supplies at night across the Potomac River past Union gunships to Confederate Virginia.
Designed by Sir John Coode, KCMG (1816-1892) in 1890-92 and completed after his death to designs by Coode, Son and Mathews. The contractors were Sir John Jackson Ltd. The later 1970s shelters and 1990s cafeteria are not of special interest.

Sir John Coode (1816-1892), civil engineer, was born on 11 November 1816 at Bodmin, Cornwall, England, son of Charles Coode, solicitor, and his wife Anne, née Bennett. He was educated at Bodmin Grammar School and studied civil engineering under James Rendel (1799-1856) of Plymouth.

John Coode, second son of Edward Coode, of Tresa, in Sithney, held the barton of Methleigh on lease, under the Arundells, in 1638, 13 Car. I; and about 1670, he purchased the fee-simple. His son Samuel purchased the manor and royalties in 1714, and it is now the property of his descendant, Edward Coode, Esq., of S. Austell.
COODE, Sir JOHN (1816–1892), civil engineer, son of Charles Coode, solicitor, and of Ann, daughter of Joseph Bennett, rector of Great Wigborough, Essex, was born at Bodmin on 11 Nov. 1816. He was educated at Bodmin Grammar School and after leaving school entered his father's office.
