He was notably Home Secretary in 1834 and served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland between 1846 and 1847, the first years of the Great Famine.

1 de may. de 2022 · She married John George Brabazon Ponsonby, 5th Earl of Bessborough, son of John William Ponsonby, 4th Earl of Bessborough and Lady Maria Fane, on 4 October 1849. She died on 30 April 1890 at age 70 at Bessborough House, Pilltown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. She was buried on 6 May 1890 at Fiddown, Ireland.3 Her will was probated on 14 June 1890.
