Alfred Peter Friedrich von Tirpitz was a German grand admiral, State Secretary of the German Imperial Naval Office, the powerful administrative branch of the German Imperial Navy from 1897 until 1916.
Alfred von Tirpitz , né le 19 mars 1849 à Küstrin en Prusse et mort le 6 mars 1930 à Ebenhausen en Allemagne, est un militaire et homme politique allemand. Avec le titre de Großadmiral, il est à l'origine de la Marine impériale allemande qui a pris part à la Première Guerre mondiale.

He entered the Prussian navy in 1865, and by 1890 had risen to be chief-of-staff of the Baltic station in the Imperial navy. In 1892 he was in charge of the work of the chief-of-staff in the higher command of the navy.
