8 de feb. de 2023 · Orde Wingate held command of the Chindits until his death on the 24 th of March 1944. He was travelling in an overladen plane which crashed into the tree-covered hills of Manipur in Northeast India. At the time of his death, Wingate had reached the rank of acting Major-General. Command of the Chindits was transferred to Brigadier Joe Lentaigne.
