22 de sept. de 2019 · The Ilkhanate did receive some military assistance in this period from one of Rabban Bar Sauma’s destinations, just not enough, and not from the one you might expect. 800 Genoese arrived in 1290 to assist the Ilkhanate in producing a fleet capable of threatening the Mamluks at sea, but little would come of it in the end.

In some ways, the Bar Sauma story has been a frustrating text to work with, for reasons I'll get into in the next episode, but I think it still makes for some pretty fascinating and unexpected encounters.
