Sonja de Norvège, née Sonja Haraldsen le 4 juillet 1937, est l’épouse du roi de Harald V. Roturière d’origine modeste, son histoire d’amour avec le prince héritier de Norvège suscite l’opposition du roi Olav V et du gouvernement dans les années 1960.
Sonja Haraldsen wurde als Tochter des norwegischen Unternehmers Karl August Haraldsen (1889–1959) und dessen Ehefrau Dagny Ulrichsen (1898–1994) geboren. Sie wuchs in Oslo auf und machte dort 1954 ihren Schulabschluss. Danach absolvierte sie eine Schneiderlehre.

Dronning Sonja er datter av kjøpmann Karl August Haraldsen (1889–1959) og Dagny Haraldsen (født Ulrichsen, 1898–1994), og vokste opp på Vinderen i Oslo. Hun tok realskoleeksamen i 1954 og gjennomgikk deretter ett års opplæring i kjole- og draktsøm ved Oslo Yrkesskole og toårig syskole i Lausanne i Sveits .

It is said that the Prince told his father he would rather never marry than marry a woman other than Sonja. This would have brought an end to the family’s dynasty, and so the King eventually relented.
