Konrad Bloch, Sohn von Fritz Bloch und Henna (geborene Striemer), begann 1930 mit dem Studium der Chemie an der Technischen Hochschule München, wo er sich bald der organischen Chemie zuwandte. Nach seinem Diplom musste er 1934 Deutschland verlassen und fand Arbeit am Schweizerischen Forschungsinstitut in Davos. 1936 immigrierte er dann in die USA.
