Dante Gabriel's brother, and a civil servant from 1845, William Michael was a founder member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. He had virtually no leanings towards painting but acted as Secretary to the PRB and editor of its short-lived journal, The Germ.
After the fame of the PRB was established, The Germ was reprinted first by Thomas Mosher (1898: Portland, Maine) and again as a close facsimile in 1901 with an introductory Preface by William Michael Rossetti giving historical and bibliographical particulars about the magazine.

William Michael Rossetti (25 September 1829 – 5 February 1919) was an English poet, writer and critic. Born in London, he was a son of immigrant Italian scholar Gabriele Rossetti, and the brother of Maria Francesca Rossetti, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Christina Georgina Rossetti.
