Born into a wealthy family, Franklin was well-educated and excelled at music. Her father described her as “affectionate, dutiful and industrious.” Little else is known about her early life.

This paper explores the childhood of later radical Philadelphia printer and journalist Benjamin Franklin Bache, which he spent in France and Switzerland between the ages of 7 and 16 (1776-85). It is based on the correspondence of his grandfather, Benjamin Franklin, and more importantly, on the diary written in French by Benny Bache, together with other documents.
