Hideaki Anno's first Ultraman fan film, an 8mm short made at Osaka University of Arts in 1980. Using only sound effects, Hideaki Anno acts out an episode of the classic series where he portrays Ultraman. It would be followed by the more well known Return of Ultraman short in 1983. A partial recreation of this short was featured in the Blue Blazes (Aoi Honō) TV series.
3rd Hideaki Anno (after Shin Godzilla and Ritual) Yes, I prefer this to Ritual, though they’re of different qualities. Ritual is a more profound work, one created by an artist in control of their medium, but Return of Ultraman is just far more fun.
