John Soane. Sir John Soane RA FSA FRS ( / soʊn /; né Soan; 10 September 1753 – 20 January 1837) was an English architect who specialised in the Neo-Classical style. The son of a bricklayer, he rose to the top of his profession, becoming professor of architecture at the Royal Academy and an official architect to the Office of Works.
Pidgeon audio-visual produced a tape-slide tour of the Soane in 1979, given by Sir John Summerson – whose regular Saturday public tours of the Museum were legendary. In April 2020 they contacted us to offer us use of the audio tape and the tour is now available free via the website.

A Museum made digital. We are using the latest in 3D technology to scan and digitise a wide selection of Museum rooms and objects - including Soane's Model Room, and the ancient Egyptian sarcophagus of King Seti I.

Getting to the Museum. Sir John Soane’s Museum is located at 13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London WC2A 3BP. If arriving by tube, Holborn station which is served by the Central and Piccadilly lines is a 5 minute walk away. Temple station is also nearby at a 15 minute stroll from the front door, and is serviced by the Circle and District tube lines.
