L'ACADEMIE JULIAN. L'Académie Julian est une école privée de peinture et de sculpture, fondée à Paris en 1867, par le peintre français Rodolphe Julian (1839-1907). Elle est restée célèbre pour le nombre et la qualité des artistes qui en sont issus pendant la grande période d'effervescence dans les arts au début du XXe siècle.
Académie Julian was founded in 1867 in Montmartre, offering students studies of live models and sessions of corrections with well-reputed artists. In 1880, a course for women was created. In 1885, the school had four hundred female students. The Académie would play an important role in the formation of American artists, from North and South.
The core of the book draws on the large collection of the Académie Julian Del Debbio, the Académie Julian's successor institution in Paris. This publication accompanied an exhibition organized by the Dahesh Museum in New York that opened after its exhibition at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown.
