1 de sept. de 2020 · Soon after Stravinsky moved to the U.S. in 1939, he settled down in Cambridge, where he delivered six lectures on the poetics of music as part of Harvard’s Charles Eliot Norton lecture series. After the end of the academic year, he left the gray, New England skies for sunny Southern California, but he quickly found his way back to Boston.
From "Poetics of Music" I learned that inspiration is never contrived and always accidental. Stravinsky said that a composer "improvises aimlessly" the way an animal grubs for food. Both seek personal satisfaction. He said this in the context of the "rules of music", making it clear that there really are no rules in musical composition.
