Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 from Rutherford, Napa Valley, California - The wine offers very showy aromas of black cherry, warm raspberries and a hint of warm toasty vanilla, with undertones of sweet earth and tobacco.
The wine was kept in these barrels for about 10 months, then assessed for quality before the final Scarecrow blend was created in Winter 2018. Returned to rest in oak for an additional 10 months, the wine was bottled in late July 2019 without fining or filtration. A total of 1,450 cases were produced.
Drink: 2016-2038. Celia Welch has hit a home run again with the legendary J.J. Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford, a site that includes a block of old vines planted in 1945, which certainly must make them some of the oldest Cabernet vines in all of Napa Valley. There are 2,000 cases of the 2014 Monsieur Etain, which is a great enough Cabernet by itself.
