Paternal grandson of Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley, and Margaret Seton. Maternal grandson of Thomas Boyd, 6th Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock, and Margaret Campbell. In 1632, Claud married Lady Jean Gordon, daughter of the 1st Marquess of Huntly and Lady Henrietta Stuart. She was a granddaughter of the 1st Duke of Lennox.
Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley (Baptised 9 June 1546 – before 3 May 1621) was a Scottish politician. He was a younger son of James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran. In 1553, he received the lands of the abbey of Paisley. As a hostage delivered to England by the Treaty of Berwick, he was said to be 14 years old in March 1560. [1]

Margaret Hamilton was born circa 1585.[1] She was the daughter of Claud Hamilton, 1st Lord Paisley and Margaret Seton.[1] She married William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas, son of William Douglas, 10th Earl of Angus and Elizabeth Oliphant, in 1601.[1] She died on 11 September 1623.[1] From 1601, her married name became Douglas.
