Born in London, Stewart Granger studied acting at the Webber-Douglas School and started his career on the stage, beginning in films as an extra. He went to Hollywood, under contract to MGM, in 1950, and appeared in a series of swashbuckling roles. As his appeal declined, he returned to make films in Europe.
