Just over 300 years ago, on 24 March 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach presented a set of six concertos to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg. Supernaturally dazzling in richness and variety, and deliberately virtuosic in scope, their survival is almost an accident.
