Augusta FitzClarence nació en Bushy House, Teddington, el 17 de noviembre de 1803 como la cuarta hija del príncipe Guillermo, duque de Clarence y St. Andrews, y su amante de mucho tiempo, la famosa actriz Dorotea Jordan. Dorotea fue la actriz más exitosa de su época y continuó actuando en el escenario durante su relación.

The final story is the excellent "The Crimson Portrait", perhaps Mina’s most effective story of all. Both these latter stories appeared in her autobiography "My Memories and Miscellanies" (1904). This collection from the Wimbourne Reprints Series therefore, for the first time,contains all of Wilhelmina FitzClarence’s supernatural short fiction.

In ‘The Bruges Ghost’ a frightening spectre appears suddenly in an historic Belgian town, while in ‘A Mysterious Visitor’ a convalescent young officer hears a startling revelation from a man he does not recognise.
