14 de jun. de 2024 · Ferdinand III (born May 6, 1769, Florence—died June 18, 1824, Florence) was the grand duke of Tuscany whose moderate, enlightened rule distinguished him from other Italian princes of his time. He became grand duke on July 21, 1790, when his father, Leopold II, succeeded as Holy Roman emperor.
Hace 3 días · Frederick III was initially laid to rest here before being moved to the High Tomb in the cathedral's southern choir. From 1564 to 1878, the crypt housed the intestines of deceased Habsburgs in urns. Maria Theresa expanded and renovated the crypt in 1754/1755, relocating the ancestors' remains into new coffins.

Hace 4 días · Ferdinand died on January 23, 1516, and the crowns of the Spanish kingdoms devolved to his grandson, Charles I (1516–56), the ruler of the Netherlands and heir to the Habsburg dominions in Austria and southern Germany. This new union had not been planned in Spain, and at first it was deeply resented.
