Hace 5 días · About the year 1740, Marybone-gardens were opened for public breakfasts and evening concerts. Some of the first fingers were generally engaged there, and fireworks were frequently exhibited. In 1777 or 1778, the gardens were shut up, and the site let to builders (fn. 14).
Hace 4 días · South Side No. 43. No. 43 was built for Benjamin Hoadly, Bishop of Salisbury and later of Winchester, under a direct lease from Sir Richard Grosvenor in 1726. It is a large and imposing house, four windows wide and of four main storeys, as befitting Hoadly's position as one of the leading Whig churchmen of his day (Plates 10d, 11c: see also fig. 3f in vol.
