This is commonly called Queen Margaret's Arch, due to an erroneous belief that it was made for the convenience of Margaret Tudor, the daughter of Henry VII, who visited York on 13–15 July 1503 on her way to be married to King James IV of Scotland.

Hace 4 días · This was the largest of four mediaeval leper hospitals outside the walls of York, said to have been founded by King Stephen (Raine, 292) and documented in 1151–61 ( EYC , 1, 251). The church was ruined during the siege of York of 1644 and the porch was taken to St. Margaret's between 1644 and 1736, when it was noted by Drake in its new position.
