(fn. 1) It probably included the land lying between Windsor and Eton north-west of the castle, (fn. 2) extending down to the Thames. A Catalan variation to the traditional legend places George's life story as having occurred in the town of Montblanc, near Tarragona .
The borough contains a good theatre, the Theatre Royal, built in 1823, and rebuilt, after being burnt down, in 1910. The first theatre in Windsor was opened in 1793. (fn. 3) There is a public recreation ground, known as Bachelors' Acre, on the north side of Sheet Street, where a revel was held formerly every year.
