This became the official surname of the British royal family. The name was based on the historical Windsor Castle which is a royal residence in the English county of Berkshire.

He became King following the death of his father on 23rd April 1016. He died on 30th November 1016 and Canute seized the throne. Edmund’s children were taken into exile.
