Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg (9 July 1511 – 7 October 1571) was queen consort of Denmark and Norway by marriage to King Christian III of Denmark. She was known to having wielded influence upon the affairs of state in Denmark.

Life [ edit ] Dorothea was the eldest child of Elector Frederick II of Brandenburg (1413–1471) from his marriage to Catherine (1421–1476), daughter of Elector Frederick I of Saxony.
Biography. Born in Kolding, Dorothea was the youngest child of Christian III of Denmark-Norway and Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg. She married William, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg on 12 October 1561. When her husband died in 1592, she became regent for her under age son George.
