The series premiered in 1959 and lasted till 1966. Before the series began its run Sheb Wooley had achieved a gold record, for his 1958 smash hit "Purple People Eater" which he also wrote.

The almost entirely male cast included Sheb Wooley, Paul Brinegar and James Murdock, with minor appearances by the like of Claude Akins, L.Q. Jones and John Ireland.
