Born into a military family, she married the 6th Duke of Roxburghe in 1836. Innes-Ker was one of Victoria's longest serving ladies-in-waiting, holding the appointment from 1865 until her death.

He married twice, first on 19 April 1769 to Mary Wray (1729/30–1807), the eldest daughter of Sir John Wray, 12th Baronet and sister of Sir Cecil Wray, 13th Baronet. [1] His wife died in 1807 and he remarried to Harriet Charlewood on 28 July 1807.

She was a daughter of Robert Crewe-Milnes, 1st Marquess of Crewe , by his marriage to Lady Peggy Primrose , one of the first seven women appointed as magistrates in 1919 following the passing of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 .
