  1. The Royal Naval College, Osborne, was a training college for Royal Navy officer cadets on the Osborne House estate, Isle of Wight, established in 1903 and closed in 1921. Boys were admitted at about the age of thirteen to follow a course lasting for six academic terms before proceeding to the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

  2. By 1921, however, the Royal Naval College Dartmouth was able to supply all the new cadets required and the college at Osborne was closed. In 1933 many of its ‘temporary’ buildings were demolished and thereafter a succession of short-term tenants occupied the site.

After attending the Fleet Review on the Solent, 1914, he was mobilised along with the majority of Dartmouth cadets at the start of WWI. 1914 rated a Midshipman with seniority of 2/8/1914.
