The Iceman Cometh represents something of a homecoming for John Frankenheimer, who made his name helming live television dramas in the 1950s, culminating in being the most prolific director of Playhouse 90, which, as the name suggests, were hour and a half works of serious drama, based on plays, novels or sometimes original stories made for the small screen.
