Gabriele Rossetti, figlio di Nicola e Maria Francesca Pietrocola, nacque a Vasto, il 18 febbraio 1783. Esordì in patria come improvvisatore di versi di tono arcadico - anacreontico . Il Rossetti giunse a Napoli nel 1804 grazie all'interessamento di Venceslao Mayo, amministratore di Tommaso d'Avalos, marchese del Vasto.
