Das Royal Military College wurde im Jahre 1800 als Schule für Verwaltungsoffiziere von John Gaspard le Marchant gegründet. Zwei Jahre später formierte sich eine Unterabteilung, um Kadetten zu Frontoffizieren ( en. Line Officers) auszubilden. 1812 zog man in das College in Sandhurst um, welches 1912 um das New College erweitert wurde.
The Sandhurst Collection also preserves and manages the archives of the academy. The archives contain records of the academy and its predecessors; the Royal Military College Sandhurst 1799-1939 and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich 1741-1939.

The Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst is where the elite of the British Army train to be officers. Cadets arrive for nearly a year of training in the leafy expanses of this military enclave on the Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey border. Founded in the early 1800s, the buildings are suitably prestigious and filled with tradition.
Although the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is an enclosed establishment, hundreds of visitors are welcomed each year on historical tours organised by the Sandhurst Trust.
