Christ's College, Canterbury is an independent Anglican secondary day and boarding school for boys, located in the city centre of Christchurch, New Zealand.. Founded in 1850 by Reverend Henry Jacobs in Lyttelton as a school for early settlers, the college is the oldest independent school in the country.
Christ’s College is New Zealand’s only independent boarding school for boys from Years 9 to 13 (ages 13 – 18 years). Christ’s College is renowned for the quality and strength of its academic, cultural, sport and co-curricular programmes, which are all designed to meet the needs of adolescent boys and prepare them for the future.
Christ’s College is well known across New Zealand for its competitiveness in a broad range of sports, from traditional team sports to more recreation-based activities. Applicants for our sport scholarships should excel in a winter and summer sport. As we have so many boys interested in this scholarship, please apply as soon as possible.

Christ's College was first established as God's House in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest, for training grammar school masters. Shortly after receiving its Royal Licence from Henry VI in 1446, God's House was forced to move from its original site as this was needed for the King's new project (what was to become King's College).
