30 de oct. de 2023 · Jimmy and Tommy formed Dorsey’s Novelty Six, later called Dorsey’s Wild Canaries, one of the first jazz bands to broadcast. In 1924, Jimmy joined the California Ramblers, who were based in New York City. He did much freelance radio and recording work throughout the 1920s, appearing as a session musician on many jazz recordings.
5 de oct. de 2020 · James collaborated with Tommy in creating the Dorsey’s Novelty Six in 1920. His brother played the trombone. A couple of years later, the Dorsey combo has attracted attention in the Baltimore area. The duo changed their name to Dorsey’s Wild Canaries around this time.

By 1922 the group, now known as Dorsey’s Wild Canaries, had attained some prominence in the Baltimore, Maryland, area and was among the first jazz bands to be broadcast on radio.

After Thomas Sr. quit the band, they became Dorsey’s Novelty Six, later to be renamed Dorsey’s Wild Canaries. The band performed throughout Shenandoah until they broke up in 1922 and Tommy and Jimmy joined the Scranton Sirens.
